Some hymn tunes are somewhat lacking in musical interest. Often, when such a hymn tune is on the program for our Sacrament service, I feel inclined to add a little ‘something’ to make it more harmonically engaging. This is one such hymn tune. I think you’ll agree it benefits greatly from this treatment. Although not at all ‘wild,’ advise the congregation to sing just the melody and coordinate with the music director before launching into this alternate harmonization.
